AI didn't take the job. It took the busywork.

The operators who win in 2026 aren't prompt wizards. They're editors with taste.

Everyone braced for AI to come for the work. What it actually came for was the busywork — the status updates, the first-draft everything, the reformatting, the 'can you just pull these numbers' that ate your Thursdays.

That sounds like a downgrade until you run the maths. Strip the busywork and what's left is the part only you can do: deciding what matters, saying no to the rest, and holding the bar on quality when the model would happily ship mediocre.

The model gives you a hundred drafts. You still have to have the taste to pick one.

The best operators I know have quietly become editors. They delegate the doing to a stack of agents and spend their attention where attention is scarce — judgement, relationships, the call nobody else will make.

If your week is still mostly busywork, that's not job security. That's the part most likely to go next. Move up the stack while you can choose to.
